Brendan Voyage

Brendan Voyage

A popular medieval epic tells of the exploits of the Irish monk Brendan, who in the 6th century, a thousand years before Columbus, sailed in a leather boat across the Atlantic and landed in Newfoundland. The crew of this program set off from the West of Ireland in a replica of Brendan's boat and followed the "stepping stone route" (Hebrides, Faroes, Iceland, and along the coast of Greenland). Swamped by gales and gashed by ice floes, they survived (contrary to all predictions) to prove yet again that epic and legend are, more than not, rooted in fact.
