This program is a nostalgic, archival, thoughtful film about America's very strange and very powerful attraction to the cigarette. It probes our reasons for smoking, investigates truth in advertising and explores smoking in the bedroom and hospital room. It is filled with movie stars and lung operations; with hit songs and funeral dirges; with medical endorsements and medical atrocities. In short, it's a lot of fun. And it hurts.
